Catalina Alvarez currently serves as Vice Chairwoman of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe; this is her third term in office. Alvarez began her political service with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe in 2004, where she served as Secretary for four years and was re-elected in 2008 as a tribal council member. Prior to taking office, she worked for the Pascua Yaqui Tribe for six years in the behavioral health and education fields. Her interest in improving the health and welfare of her citizens motivated her to run for office. She was born and raised in Arizona in the small Yaqui community of Guadalupe. She has been a lifelong community activist and a devoted member of the Guadalupanos committee and other committees. She has one son with whom she lives in Tempe, Arizona.
