Monica Simeon started Sister Sky with business partner and sister Marina Turning Robe in 1999. She is a citizen of the Spokane Tribe and was born and raised on the Spokane Indian Reservation in Ford, Washington.
Sister Sky, which manufactures natural personal care products at a facility located on the Spokane Indian reservation, is a certified MBE (Minority Business Enterprise) through the National Minority Supplier Development Council. The business is approved to use the “MADE BY AMERICAN INDIANS” trademark by the Intertribal Agriculture Council. Currently, Sister Sky collaborates with the Spokane Tribal 477 Employment and Training Program and employs and trains tribal youth at the manufacturing facility. The business has received numerous awards, including the Tribal Business of the Year Award from the American Indian Business Leaders Association in 2008 and the American Indian Women Business of the Year Award from the National Center for American Indian Enterprise Development in 2010.
Simeon earned a B.A. in communications from the University of Washington, Seattle, in 1990. She resides in Spokane with her husband, Richard and their children, Leah and Kevin.
