Regis Pecos is a citizen and the former Governor and Lt. Governor of Pueblo de Cochiti. As former Governor, he is a lifetime member of the Pueblo de Cochiti Council. He currently serves as Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the State of New Mexico, and as Co-Director of the Santa Fe Indian School Leadership Institute, which he co-founded. Before, he served as Executive Director of the New Mexico Office of Indian Affairs for sixteen years under four administrations, as well as a commissioner for the New Mexico Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission.
Pecos received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the Woodrow Wilson School of Public Policy at Princeton University, where he previously served as trustee. Furthermore, he completed his doctorate degree at the University of California, Berkeley. Pecos is actively involved in many organizations, which includes his membership in the Native Nations Institute's International Advisory Council and the Board of Governors for the Honoring Nations Program at Harvard University.
