Indigenous Peoples have always been agriculture data developers and keepers. Acknowledging the importance of Indigenous agriculture data to communities, an eight member Indigenous steering committee representing eight different Tribal Nations throughout the United States (US) designed and facilitated the Workshop. Participants shared expertise and experiences on Indigenous agriculture and outlined the data needs of those engaged in Indigenous agriculture practices, both traditional and contemporary. The Workshop explored the landscape of Indigenous agriculture data, current agriculture data needs of Indigenous Peoples in the US, and better collection of Indigenous agriculture data. Informed by a series of facilitated discussions and participant dialogue, the Collaboratory team developed a set of recommendations to improve Indigenous agriculture data through the application of Indigenous Data Sovereignty. The Collaboratory for Indigenous Data Governance convened the virtual workshop, “Past, Present, and Future Indigenous Data Sovereignty Needs in Agriculture Workshop” on November 16-17, 2022.
